The Things You Learn from AIS (Minus the Accounting & Information System)
3/09/2015I am not exactly sure of how and where I got this idea from but after weeks and weeks of studying Accounting Information System and writing numerous papers about it, it is definitely inevitable that the blogger in me will claw its way out and connect to AIS. Lucky for you, I am not going to discuss anything treacherous about Accounting Information System rather, be amazed of how James Hall's 6 Types of Physical Internal Controls can be truly useful in our everyday lives. Let's begin..
First things first, I am not going to discuss the real meanings of the six internal controls but if you want to, you can check out James A. Hall's Accounting Information System. So, let's go back..
Transaction Authorization
So, how am I going to connect authorization? Simple. All of the transactions that you will take in your life must be authorized by one single person. You. What is the sense of making a decision or answering a question based from somebody else's mind? That's not life. It's merely a replication. As such, I dare you to do something that you really like. Don't listen to the whispers of doubt. Do it. Take charge. Authorize.
Segregation of Duties
Have you noticed the organizational chart posted at your school or at your office? Don't ignore it because that simple chart tells us something very important. It tells us that we cannot do everything. We have to have people around us to survive. It doesn't matter if you're so smart or so strong because at the end of the day, you're going to crumble. You cannot manage everything in life so, I suggest that you let the people around you inside your comfort zone. Allow them to see you so they can help you and that you can help them. It's a two-way road after all. Remember that group work that you try to salvage all by yourself? It didn't came great, did it? My point exactly.Supervision
We all need someone to look after us. Look at Blair Waldorf and Serena Van der Woodsen. Twenty four hours will not be enough to pinpoint every time that they fight and make up. Then, there's Bonnie and Clyde. They may not have the most promising police records but they do prove one thing. They trust each other. They trust and love each other not to throw the other under the bus. But, they are all stories! They're history! No, they're not stories and they're not history. They are our present. Our parents and our friends are here not to throw us under the bus. They are here to protect us and help us in our time of need but most of all, there is someone up above the skies and heavens, looking after us. Watching over us. The name you call him/her doesn't matter. As long as you have faith and belief, nothing can go wrong.
Accounting Records
Okay, don't get freaked out by the word Accounting because I am going to disregard it for the sake of this post rather, I'm going to focus on the word records. Records are used in Accounting for the purpose of audit trail. It is used to find out if the data entering the system are accurate and real. Somehow, it works almost the same when you connect it with life. Records, in the form of pictures or journals or playlists, serve as evidence that you did live, that you did create and that you did exist. Don't see recording your life as something pathetic or beneath you, because when you're at the peak of your game, these records will be the one to pull you back to your real purpose and real goals.
Access
When I said that we have to let people in inside our comfort zone in order for us to be helped and help, I did not mean to say to let every single person inside. Remember the time you forced everyone to be inside the elevator and it just won't close? It is actually the same thing with life. Give the person the chance to get to know you and for you to get to know them then, once you know them, take a minute to think. Ask yourself if you want this particular person get to know the rawest and realest part of yourself. Ask yourself, will it be worth it if I give this person access to my life, my thoughts, my emotions or will I be the one to lose everything in the end?
Independent Verification
So, we are now almost at the end of our discussion and I truly believe that Independent Verification is the perfect last stage. Why? Because I see this stage or internal control as the time when we stop and evaluate or reconcile the past few days, weeks, months and years. This is where we are able to look back and see where have we gone wrong and where we have gone right. Have I improved? Have I taken a step back? If so, why or why not? This is like the evaluation stage. This is the piece of paper that are distributed after a seminar or activity. This is it. This is the end. But, is it the end?? Of course not. This is the only beginning. But this is the end of this blog post and I am truly, honestly amazed of how I was able to reform these six internal controls to six life lessons. Who would've thought?! Anyhow, I thank you for reading this weird yet interesting blog post of mine but I do hope that you learn something from this.
