Writing is a part of me that could never cease to exist. It has been a part of me for years and it is as normal as breathing. Nobody could ever stop me to write so it is not impossible for me to be part of the student publication since I was in grade school.

As a kid, I never realized how important being a part of the student publication was. I just write an article, passed it to the editors and that's it. That has been my mindset up until high school even though my best friend is the editor-in-chief. I just write, teach the newbies and let everyone do their work and that's it. Then everything began to change when I entered the realm of college student publication.

I was devastated when I was unable to join The Scholastican, our student publication in St. Scholastica's College, when I was a freshman because I had been eyeing the organization even before I entered St. Scho because I know that I could write. Fortunately, come second semester, I was able to enter as a news writer and even had my name published on the editor's box. I could say that my writing career took another level when I was offered the job as the Managing Head this school year. I took it and doubled my time as the Managing Head and as a news writer. And that's when the craziness began.

I am the youngest of the Editorial Board and being the Managing Head is not an easy task. It is not and I have to prove to myself and to my co-editors that I could do my job well and that I am not just another writer.

Along the way of trying to prove myself, I learned how to manage my time very well because I still am a news writer and I have interviews lined up plus, I have to make sure that all of our activities will be successful plus, I still have to make time for my academics. It was a balancing act and you have to love writing and being a part of the student publication in order to survive because it is very time consuming and there are times when you have to give up time for yourself.

I do not know if this is a privilege or not but I was able to speak and interview the school administrators and professors. I never knew how I was able to do it because it was definitely terrifying. I am only a sophomore and I was already interviewing the Dean of Student Affairs. That's plain crazy but what I learned from interviewing them is that they are also persons behind their intimidating titles. You just have to know how to break the barrier and communicate to them in order to get the information you need. Plus, you have to have the courage to even speak to them in the first place.

In my opinion, I think one should be a little bit crazy to enter the world of college student publication because it is 100% different from the high school student publication. In the college student publication, you're on your own almost all the time. You have to set appointments, interviews and book venues for activities and events. You have to be dedicated.

I am not scaring you but that is the life we have behind the closed doors of our office. Stacks of paper works and articles to be done but I guess that is what makes it even exciting because behind our serious facade, we're just students who love to write.
