Your Guardian Angel
11/09/2012Vampires. Werewolves. Witches. Hybrids. All of these supernatural creatures had been roaming around every popular movie, television show, books and even magazines but what about if a story about angels and demons popped out? What will be the audience's reaction since it is somehow connected to religious belief? The answer: it shoots up to NUMBER ONE and this is what happened to Lauren Kate's bestselling novel saga, the Fallen series.
My first reaction to Lauren Kate's work is "Another supernatural love story? AGAIN?" There were plenty of times when I just ignored her work when I roam around the bookstores but somehow I fell in love at her work. It was not "another supernatural love story." It was different and I just cannot get enough of the last installment of the Fallen saga: Rapture which is why I am here to give you a brief introduction for those who haven't read of it and a recap for those people like me who just cannot get over to the Fallen saga.
Mainly, the Fallen series revolves around the story of Daniel and Luce with Daniel being a fallen angel and Luce a seventeen year-old teen who somehow sees creepy shadows lurking around her since the beginning. Their dysfunctional love story was caused by the mysterious event whenever Daniel and Luce kissed. Luce burst into flames and died and it goes on and on and on every seventeen years but this time was different. Luce survived and such the story goes on about Luce's true identity and how she is somewhat related to Lucifer and the Great Fall.

The book presents a lot of religious backgrounds. It depicts places that are actually relevant to the bible story. There were scenes that are set on Mount Sinai and various holy places which really makes the story more enjoying because it let the readers go on to an adventure and not be stuck to the main character's drama.

Rapture has a good plot. It was supremely intelligent and I can see that Lauren Kate truly researched about the religious facts presented in the story but of course, we should not forget that the story is fictional and it does not have any real connections to the said religious places and artifacts. It is pure and absolutely make-believe.
There were also many twists and turns on the story. Rapture makes the readers guess on what will happen next. It uncovers many boxes of surprises and release the true identity of the character especially on Luce. Also, sacrifices were made and angels fell in order to meet their goal which is to once and for all, break the curse and stop Lucifer.
Rapture's ending was good and unexpected. Daniel and Luce made a huge decision in order to love freely. That decision was full of consequences such as leaving their angel friends and not having the confirmation that they will meet again. It was very touching and emotional and such a cliff hanger!!
An e-mail I got from Lauren Kate after sending her my message :DD |
“I want you to know that I would do it all again. I will choose you every time.” -Daniel, Rapture
